Buying used Xbox One; How to know if stolen?
Looking at purchasing a used Xbox One from one of the Facebook buy/sell groups. The girl says she's had it for just over a month. No packaging. No receipts. And listing for $250. She's a long time member of the group too.
But that has me a bit wary still. But maybe not everyone keeps their packaging and receipts.
So then, is there any way to know if it's stolen? Prior to purchasing or what happens after? I don't want to buy stolen goods by any means.
Thanks.

Anytime you buy anything used off a buy/sell site there is the possibility it is stolen, nothing you can do about it other then buy new or from someone you know/trust.
There is not really any way to determine if it is stolen, for the record I threw out most of boxes and receipts of consoles I've recently purchased. Warranties for consoles are linked to the registration date and dont require proof of purchase or any packaging and I don't like keeping garbage I don't need.

That sounds so sketchy.
Does it come with anything else? They were on sale last week for $350, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it again. If you have issues with your console for the first year of so, Microsoft will cover the fixes no charge. If your console is still or something, when you give them the serial number it could be rejected.

When buying used cellphones, you can check IMEI's against a database prior to purchasing. What happens if an Xbox One is stolen? Request serial and check somehow?

She says it comes with an HDMI cable, power cord/supply, Gears of War, 1 controller and a mic (guessing headset/mic).

If you go to pick it up and the girl turns out to be a dude then you know it is sketchy.

Unless it's one of those deals that it belonged to her boyfriend, whom she kicked out and just wants to get rid of it.

Never underestimate how desperate people get when rent comes due and their poor choices are staring them right in the face.

Well my gf just got a brand new sealed in box Xbox One with Kinect + Forza 5 for 300 cash on Kijiji. The seller's kid received it as a birthday gift but already has one.
Consider it's at least 400+ tax I consider it a good deal.

Used discs are one thing, but used electronics are a whole other ballpark. Why risk it? Save up and get a brand new one, or buy new PC parts to have a kick-ass gaming rig. Or get a PS4.
You could always chat with an online Microsoft rep and just ask them how to tell if an Xbox has been reported stolen (or is banned?), and go from there. No harm in asking anyways.

Could be they bought it at shoppers...I got the same bundle on black Friday and used my points...
I paid 350 got a $50 gift card and used 200$ in points with coupon for 18000 more...
Ended up costing about 150ish....she may be selling for 250 since prices on consoles won't get any higher....and no more Christmas rush

This happened to my friend. She asked me to sell it for her as she was uncomfortable meeting up with strangers (mostly guys presumably) to sell a video game console.
